President Javier Milei is set to travel to the United States this evening to participate in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Milei, 55, is set to address the General Assembly on Wednesday and will utilise his remaining time in the US to engage in discussions with economists, business leaders, and representatives of the Jewish community. Milei is also scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio; however, sources indicate that there is no bilateral meeting arranged with US President Donald Trump at this time. Milei is scheduled to depart from Buenos Aires at 11 PM on Monday nite. He will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, Economy Minister Luis Caputo, and his sister, Presidential Chief-of-Staff Karina Milei. The travelling delegation is set to arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport at 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
The President’s initial engagement is scheduled for approximately 4pm at Yeshiva Darchei Torah, an Orthodox Jewish boys’ school, where he will deliver remarks and be honoured with the ‘Ohev Yisrael’ award in acknowledgement of his backing for Israel. Later on Tuesday, Milei is scheduled to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, with Argentina expected to raise its longstanding sovereignty claim over the Islas Malvinas, known in the UK as the Falkland Islands, according to Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno. Milei will subsequently engage with Mexican economist and academic Roberto Salinas at 7pm, followed by a discussion with economist Xavier Sala i Martín, a US-based economist and professor at Columbia University, at 8.30pm.
Milei’s primary engagement is scheduled for Wednesday at noon, when he is set to speak at the 81st UN General Assembly for the third occasion as Argentina’s head of state. Sources anticipate that the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas (Falkland) Islands will be a significant focus in the speech, given the recent resurgence of diplomatic tensions with the United Kingdom. Later that afternoon, he will address the ‘Western Values, Economic Freedom & Strategic Security’ conference, which is organised by the Fundación Federalismo y Libertad with institutional backing from the International Republican Institute.
At approximately 6pm, Milei is scheduled to engage with business leaders and members of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas, which includes its president and CEO, Susan Segal, alongside a group of 12 to 15 executives and representatives from prominent international corporations. He will conclude the day with a 7.30pm meeting with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, a member of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement and founder of the Meaningful Life Center. On Thursday at 1pm, Milei will address The Economic Club of New York, a non-profit and non-partisan organization established in 1907. He is set to depart New York at approximately 9pm and is expected to return to Buenos Aires at 8:30am on Friday.
